Those credit counts are the standard amounts in the billing table. The same manual says some existing yearly subscribers temporarily receive more. A new subscription uses the table.
The surfaces
Press Tab in Root Search for Quick AI, which the quickstart positions as a one-off question. Open AI Chat for history, attachments, agents, and a model change mid-conversation. AI Commands turn one prompt into a reusable action. AI Extensions let that session call tools from installed extensions, such as the documented file-search tool.
The manual also documents agents, skills, projects, MCP servers, and automations that schedule a prompt. This page does not restate every control. Those are separate manual chapters, and they all sit behind AI access.
Credits and models
On the review date the billing table gave Pro 500 credits a month for fast and powerful models, Pro+ 3,000 credits with all models including top-tier, and Max 7,500 credits on the same wider catalog. Unused monthly credits roll over for one extra billing cycle. Top-up credits expire 12 months after purchase and require an active paid subscription to use. Credits pay for inference Raycast provides. A model you connect yourself follows that provider's limits instead.
Model names change. This guide intentionally does not freeze a model list from a blog post. Use the in-app model screen or Raycast's pricing page for the current lineup.
The trial
Free trials apply to Pro only. The billing manual says new users start a 7-day trial when they create an account, with 500 credits and Pro models. Top-tier models are not in the trial. Each account gets one trial. Pro+ and Max bill immediately. Cancel before the trial ends if you do not want the renewal. A subscription started on iOS is managed by Apple, not by this website and not, according to Raycast, by Raycast's own billing screen.
Your own key or a local model
Bring Your Own Key documents Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and OpenRouter keys. Local Models documents Ollama, with no Raycast credits spent and, in the manual's summary, no request leaving the machine. Raycast's Windows changelog says that on v2 those paths, plus custom providers, require a Pro subscription. They are not a free bypass.
Privacy boundary
Raycast's AI privacy chapter describes its own controls, including a claim of no prompt training, encrypted processing, and opt-in feedback. That is the publisher's description. RaycastWork has not audited it. Screen Awareness can send the window or selection you choose. Read Raycast's page before you attach private files or dictate confidential text. Do not put API keys into a prompt, a note, or a snippet.
What AI will not do for you
A fluent answer can be wrong. Scheduled automations can repeat a weak prompt. Nothing on this site measures a productivity gain from turning AI on. Use the output as a draft you can check.
